High-Temperature Acidizing: When Does a Corrosion Inhibitor Need an Intensifier?
Higher temperature makes acidizing corrosion control more demanding, but temperature alone does not define the treatment. Acid strength, metallurgy and contact time must be considered together.
The base inhibitor package may need additional support as exposure becomes more severe.
Acid concentration changes the corrosion challenge and the complete inhibitor package.
A short exposure and several hours of contact are not equivalent.
Carbon steel and alloy tubulars should not automatically share the same treatment logic.
Inhibitor first, intensifier second
The corrosion inhibitor is the primary protection. MUDOINTENS-HT is evaluated when the compatible inhibitor package needs additional support under a more demanding operating window.
Intensifier is not an acid retarder
Corrosion intensification addresses metal protection. Acid retardation addresses excessively rapid acid–rock reaction and penetration. A high-temperature job may need both functions, but they are not interchangeable.
Contact time belongs in the RFQ
A temperature-only request is incomplete. Acid concentration, metallurgy, base inhibitor and expected exposure time provide the minimum context for a useful recommendation.
Do not publish a universal maximum temperature
MUDOINTENS-HT should not carry a public “works to X °C” claim until the actual formulation has product-specific corrosion data under defined acid, metallurgy and exposure conditions.
