Acidizing Additives Selection Guide

ACIDIZING SELECTION GUIDE

Acidizing Additives Selection Guide: Corrosion, Iron, Sludge, Emulsion and Cleanup

Acid stimulation is a package, not a single chemical. The correct additive depends on whether the job is fighting corrosion, dissolved iron, acid-sensitive crude, emulsion, cleanup or treatment placement.

01Corrosion control

Protect tubing and equipment from aggressive acid exposure.

02High-temperature support

Use an intensifier only where the base inhibitor package needs additional support.

03Iron control

Manage dissolved iron before spent acid creates precipitation risk.

04Crude compatibility

Separate sludge, emulsion and cleanup problems before selecting chemistry.

Start with the failure mechanism

A useful acidizing programme begins with a specific problem. Corrosion inhibitor protects metal; MUDOINTENS-HT supports a compatible inhibitor under more demanding conditions; IRONLOCK manages dissolved iron; SLUDGECUT addresses acid-induced sludge; mutual-solvent and anti-emulsion functions address different cleanup and compatibility problems.

Do not select by temperature alone

Temperature matters, but so do acid concentration, metallurgy, contact time, formation, crude-oil behavior and the other additives in the package. The same nominal bottomhole temperature can require different chemistry on two different jobs.

Keep the product functions separate

Retardation, diversion, iron control, anti-sludge, emulsion control and corrosion control are different functions. A clear functional architecture produces better RFQs and avoids selling unnecessary chemistry.

TECHNICAL NOTE

Do not build an acid package from generic dosage tables

Product dosage and compatibility should be tied to the actual acid, metallurgy, crude/formation conditions and exposure. Mudolog should not publish unsupported universal temperature limits or fixed treatment rates for these products.

TECHNICAL RFQ

What Mudolog needs from you

Send the variables that change the chemical decision. A short, technically complete RFQ is more useful than a generic request for “acid additive price”.

  • Acid type and concentration
  • Treatment / bottomhole temperature
  • Tubular metallurgy
  • Expected contact time
  • Formation and crude-oil information
  • Known iron, sludge or emulsion history
  • Other additives already planned
  • Treatment type and destination

ACIDIZING / STIMULATION SUPPORT

Build the package around the actual failure mechanism

Share the acid system, temperature, metallurgy, contact time and the specific corrosion, iron, sludge, emulsion or cleanup problem. Mudolog can then route the enquiry to the correct product function.
