Why Acidizing Treatments Need Iron Control
Acid dissolves damage, but the dissolved iron must remain manageable as the acid spends. Rust, tubular corrosion, scale and formation minerals can all contribute to the iron load.
Acid can pick up iron before it even reaches the target formation.
As acid is consumed and pH rises, iron precipitation risk can change.
Iron-bearing minerals and scales can add to the dissolved load.
Iron and sulfide chemistry can make the precipitation problem more complex.
Iron control is not corrosion inhibition
A corrosion inhibitor reduces metal attack. IRONLOCK manages dissolved iron already present or generated from rust, scale, tubulars or formation minerals. One function does not replace the other.
Estimate the source before choosing treatment
The expected iron challenge can differ dramatically between a clean completion and an older well containing substantial rust or iron scale. Tubular condition and previous flowback data are useful commercial inputs.
Chelation and reduction are treatment mechanisms, not marketing claims
The public site should focus on the problem being managed. Detailed chemistry, loading calculations and internal test procedures belong in technical selection and QC rather than a buyer-facing article.
Do not dose iron control from a generic table
Iron loading, competing ions, acid composition and sour/non-sour conditions can all influence the required treatment. Use the actual job information whenever it is available.
What Mudolog needs from you
Send the variables that change the chemical decision. A short, technically complete RFQ is more useful than a generic request for “acid additive price”.
- Acid type and concentration
- Temperature
- Expected iron source
- Sour / non-sour condition
- Previous iron analysis if available
- Corrosion inhibitor
- Other acid additives
Build the package around the actual failure mechanism
Share the acid system, temperature, metallurgy, contact time and the specific corrosion, iron, sludge, emulsion or cleanup problem. Mudolog can then route the enquiry to the correct product function.
