DRILLCELL-LV is a fluid loss control additive used in freshwater-based drilling muds to achieve greater fluid loss reduction in addition to bentonite. CMC is a cellulose-based anionic polymer, with a general application dosage of 1–3 lb/bbl. The fluid loss control performance of Drillcell-LV decreases rapidly when the salt concentration in the system exceeds 50,000 ppm and when bottom-hole temperatures approach 300°F. In this program, the CMC used in lignosulfonate muds must meet the requirements recommended in API Spec 13A, Section 9.

Bentonite systems: 0.5 – 2.5 kg/m³

Polymer systems: 1 – 5 kg/m³
