Thinners and Clay Dispersants
In formations such as shale and claystone, clay minerals swell when they come into contact with water. These minerals interact with the water in the drilling mud, disrupting its structure. As the drilling mud thickens, it can lead to an increase in pump pressure and cause tool sticking in the wellbore. To prevent this problem, it is recommended to use an appropriate chemical that balances viscosity and gel strength in the circulating drilling mud.
