CFL Chrome-Free Lignosulfonate is an organic-based, chrome-free lignosulfonate successfully used in all freshwater-based drilling muds. As a secondary function, CFL chrome-free lignosulfonate also assists in fluid loss control. The general application dosage is 2–4 lb/bbl, and it provides maximum effectiveness when the system pH is between 9.5 and 10.5. As bottom-hole temperatures approach 350°F, the effectiveness of CFL begins to decrease.
