Modified Starch controls fluid loss in water-based drilling muds and completion fluids. This polymer is typically used in the range of 4–6 lb/bbl. It performs effectively in NaCl, KCl, and CaCl₂ solutions. The temperature stability of Modified Starch decreases above 250°F. It is protected against fermentation and does not require the addition of a bactericide.
